Winter Wonderland
CLARENDON - Think your State Parks are just for summer activities? Think again! Almost all of Pennsylvania’s State Parks offer many exciting and fun winter activities. Chapman State Park is your winter destination. Our recent upgrade to modern facilities makes winter life even more comfortable for park users with two heated restrooms open throughout the winter.
Feeling adventurous and full of energy? Bring the kids and enjoy a swift ride down our sledding hill, lit until 10 p.m. every night. Looking for something a bit more laid-back, then check out our groomed cross-country ski trails. When conditions permit, park staff grooms up to 4 miles of trails throughout the park and on to State Gamelands specifically for the xc-ski enthusiast. Chapman Lake is a great place to try your hand at ice fishing, stocked twice with trout during the winter; this is a very popular and relaxing activity on the frozen lake. Bring your skates! Park staff maintains an area of this frozen surface for skating immediately in front of the mooring area on the west side of the lake. This area is maintained as conditions permit; please observe the postings in this area.
All those thoughts of fun winter activities making you cold? Check out the warming hut. Located conveniently between the sledding hill and skating area, it is a great place to enjoy a hot chocolate and thaw out a bit before getting back out there. Fire wood is provided when available. Chapman is also located on the ANF snowmobile trail system. Red # 1 goes directly through the park and links up to over 300 miles of riding throughout the area. Bring your sled and come explore the fantastic PA Wilds this winter.
